Tulasipur (Dang), Oct 24: The Tulasipur-based Rapti Provincial Hospital in Dang has no ICU facility, forcing patients with severe complications to be referred outside the district. 
According to Hospital medical superintendent Dr Mohammad Nurul Hoda, the long compulsion to refer patients has affected the image of the hospital. 
"Sometimes we are mocked as a referral centre," he said. 
Similarly, the Hospital also lacks CT scan services. The hospital's CT-scan machine has turned dysfunctional for the past two years and is waiting for its repair to date.  According to Dr Hoda, the maintenance cost for the machine is unaffordable for the hospital.   
Similarly, the hospital faces challenges in operating hemodialysis service, with only nine of its 16 machines currently functional. Over 90 patients from economically disadvantaged families are on the waiting list to access the service. 
Hospital Development Committee Chair Mahendra Lamichhane stressed the need for further efforts to address issues in the operation of hemodialysis service.
Although the Hospital has presently 141 beds, its officially approved bed capacity remains limited to 50.
