Kathmandu, Nov 4: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Mint Division is going to sell gold 'asarfi' and silver medallions targeting the Tihar festival.

The Division under the Currency Management Department of the central bank is going to sell gold asarfi and silver medallions from its Babarmahal office on November 5 and 6, in the run up to the Tihar festival.

People place the asarfi and the silver medallion at the special altar for performing the Laxmi puja rituals as part of the Tihar festival celebrations. During the Laxmi puja, devotees offer special prayers to goddess Laxmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity.

According to the notice issued by the Division on Wednesday, one piece of 25-gram gold asarfi and one piece each of 10-gram silver medallions (engraved with images of the deities- Lakshmi and Ganesh) will be sold per person, with a maximum of two pieces.

The gold asarfi and medallions will be sold from 11am to 3pm to customers in queue as long as stocks last, the central bank has stated.

Those wishing to purchase must be present in person with a copy of their Nepali citizenship, national identity card, or any other certificate with the number of the said document mentioned. Payment for the purchase can be made in cash or via QR.

The price of the asarfi and medallions will be determined daily around 11am, and sales will begin only after the price is determined, the central bank has stated.
